I started writing poetry when I was a junior in college attending Tulane University. Poetry became a wonderful outlet for the thoughts floating around in my mind. While I was desperate and lonely, sitting in my small wooden office inside my apartment on Magazine Street in New Orleans, I poured out my heart into these poems, exposing my shame, taking the blame for everything I experienced in life. That was when I woke up to the true desire living inside my heart. I began to have hope again! I started writing every day and every night. The poetry just came flowing out of me like the mighty Mississippi River flowing downstream during a heavy rain. I still write poetry until this day; it heals me. I hope it heals you, too.
