Let’s read Exodus 27:20–21:
“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light, that a lamp may regularly be set up to burn. In the tent of meeting, outside the veil that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever throughout their generations by the people of Israel.”
We’re talking about the lampstand in the tabernacle.
“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light.”
The olive oil is what allows the light to burn. When you add the ignition, the flame, to the oil, it creates light.
This olive oil is a picture of the Holy Spirit.
In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is often described as oil, fresh oil, anointing oil. Oil is one of the symbolisms of the Holy Spirit.
Pure beaten olive oil.
Olives are pressed and beaten to bring out the goodness, the richness.
Just as Yeshua the Messiah was beaten for us. He was scourged, beaten, spit on, degraded, chastised. And what came from that crushing? Salvation. Redemption. The Holy Spirit poured out.
After Jesus died and rose again, He stayed on earth 40 days. Then He ascended into heaven. Five hundred witnesses saw Him ascend on a cloud. And before He left, He told the disciples to wait for the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Ten days later, the Holy Spirit came.
But in those ten days? They waited.
They prayed.
They sought the Lord.
They waited.
Waiting on the Lord is almost a lost art. We want everything immediate. But some things take time to manifest. It takes time for God to set things up.
And when the Holy Spirit came, many spoke in tongues, evidence of the Spirit, a gift of the Spirit.
“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring pure beaten olive oil for the light.”
You need the Holy Spirit to be the light.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
But you cannot do that on your own. You need the fresh oil. You need the Holy Spirit.
You get that by spending precious time with the Lord, reading the Word, praying, fasting, giving, obeying Him.
That brings you closer.
It is the Holy Spirit within you that allows you to shine. He is holy. He makes us holy. He teaches us how to live holy.
Father God, help your children shine the pure light of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Just as you ordained the children of Israel to use the olives regularly to light the lampstand, help us regularly stay in Your presence so we can shine the pure heavenly light of the Holy Ghost.
