There are moments when words fall short, when life feels heavier than it should, and when joy seems like a distant memory. In those moments, Scripture does not rush us. It invites us. It gently draws us back to the place where everything begins again—the presence of the Lord.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8
This is the heartbeat of Teens Draw Near to God. Instead of perfection and performance, we receive God’s presence, something money can’t buy.
When we draw near to God, we are not stepping into judgment. We are stepping into intimacy. God does not withhold Himself from those who come honestly. He meets us there, right where we are.
The Word tells us something astonishing about that meeting place:
“You will show me the path of life;
in Your presence is fullness of joy;
at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16:11
Not partial joy.
Not borrowed happiness.
Fullness of joy.
In the presence of God is joy that exists even alongside grief. This joy does not deny sorrow, but outlives it. It’s joy that steadies the soul when circumstances look bleak.
The path of life is not abstract. Scripture makes it clear, Jesus Himself is the Way (John 14:6). The narrow road may feel misunderstood in a wide world, but it is the only road that leads us home. When we walk with Him, we are not walking alone, and we are never walking without purpose.
There is another profound gift found in God’s presence, your strength.
“Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10
Strength is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like getting up again. Sometimes it looks like worship when you don’t feel like singing or praying when you don’t feel like praying. Sometimes it looks like choosing to meditate on the Word of God when your heart feels restless or tired.
The joy of the Lord strengthens us because it reminds us of who God is and who we are to Him.
There was a season in my life when I was depressed. However, I made the decision to step intentionally into God’s presence. I worshiped. I walked. I repeated the truth out loud until my soul remembered it.
And slowly, gently, the heaviness lifted.
Darkness cannot remain where God’s presence is welcomed.
That is why Scripture matters. That is why we anchor ourselves in the Word. Not to memorize verses as an obligation, but to inhale truth when our breath feels shallow.
God’s presence is not reserved for the strong.
It is available to the willing.
If today feels heavy, draw near.
If today feels joyful, draw near.
If today feels ordinary, draw near.
He is already waiting.
