I’m exploring the heart behind the poem “Silver, Sapphire, or Gold” from my book Jaundiced View: Desire, Love, Hate, Religion. For the past few weeks, I’ve been uncovering layers of this work, and now it’s time to dive into Part Four: The Power of Unconditional Love.
Understanding True Love
Is it silver, sapphire, or gold? Does true love mean accepting each other’s failures? The quest for true love is full of hope and with despair, guiding us through broken hearts. I’ve experienced those moments of longing for my prince, just like in the fairy tales, ‘Snow White’ and ‘Cinderella,’ as I mentioned in this week’s podcast, “The Power of Unconditional Love”. Yet, love’s journey can be daunting and full of emotions. But my story co-mingles with hope for an eternal connection.
Love on God’s Path
We each have the freedom to choose whom we love and how we pursue those relationships. I believe in waiting for the love God has prepared for you. The right partnership, fueled by divine love, surpasses any fleeting desire. Just as Jacob waited seven years for Rachel, love that is true respects and cherishes you, nurturing growth over time.
Unconditional Love
Though my love journey wasn’t typical, God’s unconditional love, agape love, filled every void and healed every wound. This divine love surpasses romantic notions, offering completeness and strength. It’s the love Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about, one that can transform communities and relationships.
Hope Beyond Love
The rapture, a cornerstone of Christian belief, promises love eternal with Jesus Christ by being swooped up into the heavens. As we speak of love on earth, we also reach for the divine, eternal embrace. However, whether you believe in this or not, the lesson here is not to settle for anything less than what is meant for you. Wait, be patient, and look for a love that aligns with your true purpose.
