You ever feel like you’re trying to keep it together, but everything seems like chaos? Well, you’re not alone. There’s an old saying from one of my prayer leaders: The flesh is a mess. That always stuck with me. The idea is that our human nature, what we live in every day, can be pretty weak and messy. Jesus talked about this in Matthew 26:41 when He said, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Isn’t that the truth?
Why Easter Matters for Us
With Easter just behind us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what that means for these messy human lives we lead. Easter is when we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, completing His mission to save us. Why is that important? Because He made the ultimate sacrifice to free us from being stuck in our messes. His obedience, even unto death, was the sacrifice that allows us to live a fuller, more meaningful life.
Drawing Near to God Amongst the Chaos
You might be wondering, “Okay, but how do I actually draw closer to God when life feels like it’s going a million miles an hour?” The answer is simpler than you might think. It starts with acknowledging where you are and letting God in. The Book of James reminds us to draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Invite God into your life, your decision making, and your schedule. It’s about taking that first step, no matter where you are on your journey.
Self-Love and Loving Others: A Balancing Act
Easter reminds us of the love Christ has for us, and it’s a good time to remind ourselves to love who we are, too. I know, loving yourself can be tough, especially if you’re dealing with low self-esteem or you feel unworthy. But Jesus loves you. Once you start loving yourself, it becomes so much easier to love others, which is the very thing Jesus told us to do.
Mindfulness: Transforming from the Inside Out
Part of loving yourself involves being mindful. Think about what you consume, meaning not just food and drink, but what you read, what you watch, and what you see. Does it help or hurt your journey? Make choices that elevate you. Change starts internally, transforming your mindset to align with the love and purpose God has for you.
Escaping the Pain
I want to point you towards Revelation 8:13. It talks about woe coming, but remember, Easter is about hope overcoming human woe. So, as you move through life, let the love of God inspire you to overcome the mess of the flesh, knowing you’re walking this path with divine love and strength on your side.
