From Torah Study to Song: My Divine Inspiration

I want to share a piece of a song that I wrote many years ago while I was attending Divinity School in Colgate, Rochester, New York. At that time, I was also attending Torah study at a Reform synagogue. During one of the Torah study sessions, someone made a comment that really caught my attention. They said, “Jesus is just a Jew.”

I, being a songwriter, was inspired by that statement and wrote a little bridge about it based on my own belief about who Jesus is as a Christian. This is what I came up with:

Jesus ain’t just a Jew,
He’s the Son and the Messiah too.
He’s coming to make all things new.
Jesus ain’t just a Jew.

Actually, the original version went a little differently. It said, “You know, I think you’re very confused, because Jesus ain’t just a Jew.” But the variation you’re going to hear, the one I’ll be sharing a link to, includes the new version with the line, “He’s coming to make all things new.”

And He is! According to the Bible, Jesus makes all things new, which is amazing because, you know, who doesn’t like new things? We all love new cars, new houses, though some old things are still good, like the Old Testament, which is the Word of God.

The phrase “He’s coming to make all things new” is found in Revelation 21:5, which says:

And he that sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

And so now I’m thinking of another little rendition of this song:

Jesus ain’t just a Jew,
He’s the Son and Messiah too.
He’s coming to make all things new.
Yes, these words are faithful and true.

Praise God.

God bless, Shirah Chante, your relationship coach

PS – I sang this bridge on my Saturday Midnight Prayer, you can listen to it here.
