It’s a special moment I’m sharing with you during this midnight prayer session. I’m here to talk about something that’s been on my heart for a while, marriage and relationships, as God intended.
The Midnight Connection
In the Bible, there’s a powerful significance to midnight prayers. Stories from the Psalms and the Torah describe profound happenings at this hour. Midnight is not just a time on the clock; it’s a moment God often chooses to act. Tonight feels like the right time to engage in deep prayer and reflection for those connected through divine intention but for whatever reason are not together.
Preparing Your Heart
Let me start this conversation by sharing how important prayer is to me. It’s a means to ask God for what we need, to intercede for others, and yes, sometimes to seek answers. As we delve into this, let’s first focus our hearts with a song of praise and hallelujah, offering our love and gratitude in our own words or shared ones. Let’s feel welcome in God’s presence.
Seeking Truth in Scripture
Now, why am I talking about marriage? With Valentine’s Day just behind us, it feels right to discuss Mark 10:9: “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” This part of scripture leads the heart to question: what does it truly mean for God to join two people? Are all marriages divinely orchestrated, or did some people come together on their own outside of God’s will?
Unpacking Jesus’ Teaching
In Mark chapter 10, Jesus conversed with the Pharisees about divorce. He explained the reason for divorce was due to the hardness of human hearts, but that was never the original plan. From the beginning, marriage meant two becoming one flesh, a lasting union meant to be unbroken by man.
What Makes A Union Divine
Here’s a thought: Some unions are indeed joined by God, while others might not be. Could this be why many relationships struggle and many marriages end up in divorce? It’s worth considering, just as it’s worth examining whether vows made before God hold the same strength when formed without divine direction.
Prayer for Understanding
I find myself turning to prayer to clarify these thoughts. I ask for God’s wisdom regarding who He joins and who joins themselves. My prayer is for those truly connected by God to be together forever, and for romantic relationships to be reorganized according to God’s plan.
Reflective Moments
As we continue to reflect, think about those God truly put together but are not. Could their spiritual connection surpass the paperwork? These are not easy questions, and I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers. But, prayer opens the door to dialogue with God where we can uncover His truths.
Nehemiah’s Lesson
The book of Nehemiah shares its own stories about Israelite unions with foreign women. God guided them to rectify situations He hadn’t ordained by telling the Israelite men to separate from foreign women in Nehemiah 13:25-27 . Does this mirror our modern relationships? It may not be identical, but it invites us to think about rectifying what’s not aligned with God’s Word.
A Personal Prayer Initiative
I’m placing upon this altar the need for God’s guidance, so those He joins find strength to overcome obstacles. May those who are apart reunite in His time, moving barriers and mountains with faith. Let’s stay open-hearted to His course corrections, for only God knows what is right for everybody involved.
Sit with these thoughts a while, and probe these spiritual questions personally. If anything stirred within you, take it to prayer. This is just the beginning of many talks I hope we will have. Remember, you are loved by God, by yourself, and by people.
Thank you for reflecting with me, during this midnight prayer. It’s a journey I’m glad to share with you.
