I wrote a song called Cling to the Fall, inspired by my time in Divinity school in Rochester, New York that I share on my podcast Relationship Rock. It’s a heartfelt piece that discusses human nature, with a lyrical rendition of the story of Adam and Eve. Even if you’re unfamiliar with their story, don’t worry, we’re here to explore it together with fresh eyes and open hearts.
Let’s talk honestly about why obedience matters so much in our relationships. Throughout life, we often face choices that test our willingness to follow sound advice or divine guidance. In those moments, obedience becomes our compass. Like when God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they were free, yet had a choice to obey. Unfortunately, they followed temptation, just like we sometimes do when life dangles that one thing we think we can’t have right in front of our face. Being obedient shows genuine love and respect for God, yourself and others. Obedience brings confidence and strength based on love. I’ve learned firsthand that when things are right at home, the world feels a little brighter, and everything else falls into place.
Now, let’s get into a story from the Bible about King Saul. His journey provides a real lesson about prioritizing obedience over sacrifice. Saul thought he could adjust God’s instructions for his own comfort, but he lost much more than he bargained for. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you knew what needed to be done but held back because of fear or doubt? Just know that obeying God opens doors to unimaginable blessings.
If there’s anything you should take from this, it’s that love brings obedience. The more you love God, the easier it is to obey Him. That might mean trusting the process even when God’s plan feels uncertain at first. I’ve experienced that nervous excitement when you’re on the brink of doing something big because He said so. Obeying God is always very fulfilling to your soul.
I pray you find the spirit of obedience dwelling within you, encouraging and empowering you to make those choices that lead to a life filled with peace.
