Moses went up to the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments, written with the finger of God. And that alone is amazing, written with His own finger. We’ve seen the finger of God before, when the magicians said, “This is the finger of God,” because they could not replicate the plague. Something no one else can replicate, that is the finger of God.
While Moses was on the mountain, the people got discouraged. They got weary. They wondered, “Where is Moses?” They needed a leader. Aaron told them to take off their gold jewelry and give it to him. He fashioned a golden calf, and the people started worshiping it. So the Lord told Moses to go down because the people had corrupted themselves. That’s what the Word says. “They have corrupted themselves.” They turned aside quickly. They made a golden calf and worshiped it.
And what really hit my spirit was this: you corrupt yourself when you commit idolatry. There is some kind of corruption that comes into your soul. That doesn’t sound good. I don’t want to be corrupted. And you shouldn’t either. When you start worshiping and idolizing things, people, money, careers, whatever that golden calf might be in your life today, it causes corruption and you don’t want that.
God wanted to destroy the people, but Moses interceded. He reminded God of His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Israel and the Lord relented. That is one of the most comforting things about God, He keeps His Word. I don’t have to worry about what God says. I am secure knowing that what He says He will do. That takes anxiety out of life. When He says it, it’s law. He will do it.
