Let’s take an honest look at our human nature. This is a reflection of the inner struggles that can pull us away from our spiritual path. We’re all triune beings (Genesis 2:7). That means we’re spirit, flesh, and soul. These parts of us are in a constant war within us if we allow it. Our flesh, with all its cravings, wants to pull us away from what God wants for us. But our spirit? Our spirit wants to walk with the Lord to bring us closer to Jesus and guide our soul along a path of righteousness.
In my poem, The Flesh is a Mess, the messiness this poem speaks of is the very experience of our human experience. It’s honest, raw, and a little chaotic, just like our hearts sometimes. But don’t worry, we’re figuring it out together! So, let’s talk about the works of the flesh (Galatians 19-21). These are things that, deep down, we know aren’t leading us where we want to go, which is to God.
What if we could shed envy like old skin? What if adultery fell away and jealousy became a thing of the past? What if we chose love over anger every time? That’s the transformative power of inviting the spirit to guide us, of letting the works of the flesh fall away like dust.
I’ve been in the flesh before. I’ve felt the sting of low self-esteem that led to that ravenous feeling of jealousy. But through self-love rooted in God’s view of me, I’ve seen healing. My prayer for you is that you embrace self-love. It’s a powerful, freeing thing when you start loving yourself the way God loves you. Fornication will be a thing of the past. Phew!
Consider the peace that comes from letting go of these burdens. Just imagine no more road rage and no more endless arguments. Instead, choose kindness, choose love. It may not be easy, but it’s better. I’ve got something that might help you along the way called the Relationship Rescue Plan. It’s a reflection guide to help you tune into the Holy Spirit’s whispers over the chaos and to help you lead with the spirit within you that is more powerful than any work of the flesh.
