The first verse of my song, People in the Street says, “We were on vacation, dead bodies in the ocean, little boy got a machine gun, we just want to have some fun.“
God dropped this song into my spirit one early morning when I was praying. These lyrics are kind of a little bit disturbing, I would say. You know, dead bodies in the ocean, little boy got a machine gun. This is not a peaceful time in the world, it seems like we’re on vacation, but these things are happening. We’re seeing dead bodies, there’s a little boy with a machine gun, what kind of life is this? We just want to have some fun, but obviously there are some things going on in the world that are keeping us from having fun, and that are very serious, and that we probably need to take heed to, even though we just want to be on vacation.
Perhaps, God is speaking to us in life that maybe it’s not time for vacation. Maybe it’s time to look at those who need us, who may need your help, your assistance with burying dead bodies or preventing dead bodies from occurring. Maybe there is something you can do to help prevent whatever caused these dead bodies. But even if you couldn’t, maybe there was a natural disaster and there’s just a lot of dead bodies. Perhaps, we could use that vacation money to assist in the proper burial of these people. We can’t stop an act from God, but we can help remediate or heal the situation afterwards.
And maybe the boy with the machine gun sounds like some kind of war that’s so horrible that they’re even recruiting little children. That’s how dangerous and how evil the war has become, that they even recruit little boys to fight their battle when the little boys should be having fun, like we want to be having fun. Maybe God is showing us something in these song lyrics that He dropped into my spirit. While we’re out having fun, this little boy is the one who should really be having fun. This is his childhood gone. Instead, he’s carrying a machine gun. What can we do to help rescue this child out of being recruited for military advantage at this young age? Is there anything we can do? Maybe we can look into this.
So just keep your eyes open. I’m not telling you not to go on vacation. I know we need a vacation here and there every once in a while. We work hard. We make money. King Solomon said, what better is there to do in life than to enjoy your labor? I think a vacation is a part of enjoying your labor. King Solomon says that in Ecclesiastes 2:24. But when you’re on a vacation, don’t close your eyes to the need that’s around you. Open your heart and open your eyes. Open your ears and open your hands to be of help to those in need.
