There came a leper to Jesus, beseeching Him and kneeling down to Him and saying, “If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.” And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand and touched him and said unto him, “I will. Be thou clean.” Jesus was cleansing people of diseases. He was casting devils out of people. He was making people whole.
In Mark chapter two, they brought to Him one sick of the palsy, borne of four. Because of the press, they could not get in, so they uncovered the roof where He was. They broke it up and let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, He said unto the sick of the palsy, “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
The scribes questioned in their hearts, “Who can forgive sins but God only?” Jesus said, “Whether is it easier to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee, or to say, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk?” And immediately the man arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all. They were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw it on this fashion.”
I want to bring something to your attention. Jesus connected this disease to sin. That is not always the case, but it is possible. If there is sickness in your body, it’s something you might want to consider, “are there any sins in my life that I need to repent of?” It’s good to repent of your sins anyway daily, but especially if something is going on in your body.
So we see here that Jesus was famous because He was casting out devils, healing diseases, and forgiving sins. The devils knew Him. They feared Him. And when you do the work of the Lord, when you preach the gospel, the devils know you too.
